New in Japan! Space monitoring system for imported bananas.

February 7th, 2005 - Mitsubishi Electric in cooperation with Dai Nippon printing and AEON have developed a GPS satellite food distribution traceability system. Daabonfs JAS Certified Organic bananas will be the first imported fresh produce in Japan to use this system. This way, consumer confidence will be boosted as a third party guarantees the productfs traceability.

Starting this spring in Japan, the new traceability system relying on GPS Satellite technology will be on the spotlight when the first Daabon Organic bananas arrive in the country. Daabon Organic Japan is recognized as a leading player of the Japanese organic industry as it is one of the very few import and distribution companies that can deliver products from the soil to the market. We have successfully introduced our organic palm oil, bananas, coffee beans, instant coffee and sugar during the last four years. Now, relying on the newly developed technology by Mitsubishi Electric, we are at the forefront of the industryfs development by demonstrating the productfs safety and traceability.

A computer linked to a satellite and operating at Daabon Groupfs headquarters will print a sticker on the harvest day containing all the relevant product information in a newly developed tri-dimensional bar code called the Q.R. Code. These stickers will be attached to the boxes at the packing house in each farm, before loading them on the containers in Santa Marta. After arrival in Japan, the information is updated including the packing and delivery data and attached to the product in a new Q.R. Code. Using a cellular telephonefs camera to take a picture of the Q.R. Code sticker and the consumer may immediately access Mitsubishifs Coco Dates website where all the relevant product history and information is downloaded to the cell phonefs screen including pictures and farm maps.

This third party operated and technology enabled system is the first in Japan and enables the consumer to access all the product history, thereby generating trust and reliability.
